This notice explains what personal data Newscooper Ltd ("Newscooper", "we") collects, why, and what your rights are. It covers four situations: visiting this website, joining our monthly update, using Newscooper as a customer, and appearing in the public content our service processes. 1. Visiting this website
What we collect. We use Plausible Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without storing your IP address or any identifier that could single you out. If you write to us or book a call, we hold what you send us: your name, email address, organisation and the content of your message or booking.
Why, and on what basis. To run and improve the website and to answer you. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in operating a website and responding to people who contact us, and, once you ask us to arrange a call or a pilot, the steps needed to enter into a contract with you.
Cookies. This website sets no cookies. If that changes, we will say so here and ask for consent where the law requires it.
Bookings. Calls are booked through Calendly, which processes your booking details on our behalf under its own terms. Following the booking link takes you to Calendly's site.
2. The monthly update
If you enter your email address to receive our monthly update, we store it and use it only to send that update. The lawful basis is your consent. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and you can also write to elijah@newscooper.com at any time. The list is held a secure database, which processes it on our behalf. We do not share, sell or rent the list.
3. If you are a customer
When your organisation uses Newscooper, your organisation decides what stories and subjects to follow and who in your team has access. For the personal data inside your workspace, your organisation is the controller and Newscooper is the processor, acting on your instructions under a data processing agreement, available on request.
Your workspace is private to your organisation. We keep it for the term of your agreement and delete or return it within one year (or earlier if requested) of the end of the term, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
We also hold account details for the people who use Newscooper at your organisation (name, work email, role, login records) so we can provide and secure the service. The lawful basis is the contract with your organisation and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure.
4. If you appear in the public content we process
Newscooper assembles developing stories about companies from publicly available sources: news sites, social media, official and regulator statements, forums and video. That content can contain personal data, for example the name of a journalist, an executive, a public official or the author of a public post. We collect it because it is part of the public record of a story, not to build a profile of you.
What we hold. The public content itself, the source it came from, when it was published, and the claims and corrections we trace through it. We do not enrich this with data from any non-public source.
Lawful basis. Our legitimate interest, and our customers' legitimate interest, in understanding how a story about a company is developing across public sources. We have weighed that interest against your rights and consider it proportionate, because the content is already public, we do not combine it with private data, and we do not profile individuals. Where public content contains special categories of data, we rely on the fact that the information was manifestly made public by the person concerned.
Retention. We keep public content for as long as the story it belongs to remains part of a customer's record and in line with our agreements with the publishers and platforms it came from.
Removal. You can ask us to remove content that contains your personal data by writing to elijah@newscooper.com. We will act within one month. Because the content is published by third parties, the same or similar content may enter our service again later; if it does, tell us and we will remove it again.
5. Who we share personal data with
Service providers who process data on our behalf: hosting providers, Calendly for bookings, Plausible for analytics, private databases for the monthly update, and email. Each is bound by contract to use the data only for the service it provides to us.
Authorities, where the law requires it or to establish or defend legal claims. A buyer or successor, if Newscooper's business is sold or merged, on the same terms as this notice. Nobody else, and never for advertising.
6. International transfers
We are based in the United Kingdom and serve customers in the UK and the European Economic Area. Some of our providers process data in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or on an adequacy decision, so that the data keeps equivalent protection. Details are available on request.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR and, where it applies, EU GDPR, you can ask us to give you access to your personal data, correct it, erase it, restrict or object to how we use it, or give it to you in a portable format, and you can withdraw consent at any time where consent is the basis. Write to elijah@newscooper.com; we respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK (ico.org.uk) or to the data protection authority in your EU country.
8. Security
We use access controls, encryption in transit and at rest, and logging, and we limit access to personal data to people who need it. We will tell you and the relevant authority without undue delay if a breach affects your data in a way the law requires us to report.
9. Children
This website and our service are for organisations and professionals and are not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
10. Changes
We will update this notice when our practices change and show the date at the top. Material changes to how we process customer or public-content data will be notified to customers directly.
